Watch Footage of James Durbin’s Concert Debut With Quiet Riot
Quiet Riot were back in the news recently after deciding to make a singer switch. Having Seann Nicols in the fold for just a few months, the group selected onetime American Idol finalist James Durbin to replace him as frontman for the band. Durbin got a chance to show fans how it will sound with him on vocals during his first show with the group at the Cotillion in Wichita, Kan. Saturday night (March 18).
Durbin had an existing relationship with guitarist Alex Grossi prior to joining Quiet Riot, with the pair collaborating on the Maps to the Hollywood Scars EP last year. And the band was so excited about the new association with Durbin that they pushed back the release of their new album in order to have the singer provide the vocals on the disc.
Durbin stated upon joining the band, "I think there’s some really awesome gems in the Quiet Riot catalog that are really overlooked. love ‘Put Up or Shut Up.’ I love ‘Condition Critical’ and ‘Thunderbird,’ even the song ‘It Sucks to Be You’ from the Quiet Riot documentary [Well Now You’re Here, There’s No Way Back]. I’m really looking forward to putting my spin on it as a singer. I feel I’m much more melodic in my singing than some of the singers Quiet Riot has featured in the past, so I’m looking forward to soaring those vocals over the crowd."
The vocalist got his chance to "put his spin" on Quiet Riot's music during the Saturday show. Fan shot footage from Steven Seuferling can be seen above and below, with the band performing "Cum on Feel the Noize," "Bang Your Head" and "Run for Cover" among other tracks.
Frankie Banali revived Quiet Riot in 2010 and after initially performing with Mark Huff and Scott Vokoun on vocals, they found some stability with Jizzy Pearl. But Pearl decided to focus on his solo career last fall, leading to the announcement of Nicols as their new singer. However, the Adler's Appetite musician wasn't working out, and Nicols quickly moved on to Bobby Blotzer's Ratt after his exit from Quiet Riot.
