What Team Will Tony Romo Play For in 2017? [POLL]
Tony Romo will look very different in whatever uniform he slips on next season.
The Dallas Cowboys will reportedly release their all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns, letting him sign somewhere else.
Romo, 36, has spent his whole career with America's Team before giving way to rookie Dak Prescott last season. Prescott led Dallas to a 14-2 record, en route to winning the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year and making Romo, who graciously admitted Prescott should be the team's starting QB, expendable.
Romo has battled injuries in recent years and it remains to be seen if he can continue to play at a high level. That said, the four-time Pro Bowler will be highly sought after on the open market, especially considering the draft class is bereft of surefire signal-calling prospects.
Several teams have been linked to Romo. The Broncos, only one year removed from a Super Bowl title, could use a veteran to balance a solid defense while grooming Paxton Lynch for the future. The Jets desperately need talent and continuity under center. They once added Brett Favre, so it's not inconceivable they'd do something like that again. The Texans are reeling from the disastrous signing of Brock Osweiler. The Bears could be in play if they elect to part ways with Jay Cutler. The 49ers, having divorced themselves of Colin Kaepernick, are in serious rebuilding mode and could use some stability under first-year head coach Kyle Shanahan. The Redskins have also popped up, but don't expect it.
Then again, maybe none of those teams will wind up with Romo. The NFL works in weird ways sometimes. We'll just have to wait and see.
