There’s nothing quite like the Montana State Bobcats vs. University of Montana Grizzlies rivalry. It’s passionate, heated, and...sometimes downright obsessive. Case in point: even when the Bobcats play other teams in the conference (or even the National Championship game), their chants somehow manage to include us Grizzlies.

Take, for example, the musical masterpiece of “Mony Mony” by Billy Idol. You’d think it’s just a harmless pump-up song, right? Wrong. Bobcat fans have turned it into a vehicle for their Griz obsession, belting out alternative lyrics that aren’t a good fit for a family-friendly stadium. Let’s just say they involve the phrase, “Eat s#!t Grizzlies,” followed by their rallying cry, “Go Cats Go.” Stay classy, Bozeman.

It’s almost a compliment when I think about how much space we take up in their heads. They could be playing a team from California, and somehow, they’d still find a way to drag the Grizzlies into it. Do we have some kind of magic spell over them? A rent-free mansion in their collective psyche?

So, Bobcat fans, we get it. You’re obsessed. But here’s a little suggestion: class it up a bit. I can't begin to tell you how embarrassed I am when I hear the crowd chanting "ESG GCG" during a nationally televised game.

Even though you have a cat's litter box for a stadium. You’ve got a decent team. Why not focus on that instead of dragging the Grizzlies into everything? In the meantime, we’ll be over here, polishing our trophies and living rent-free in your heads.
