– The vintage tour van once driven by sludge metal legends the Melvins (which features artwork on the side that was hand-drawn by late Nirvana star Kurt Cobain) was finally sold at auction for just over $24,000. What a steal!
Big news, Smashing Pumpkins fans: The band has announced plans to mount a major fall 2012 North American arena tour. Green Day are gearing up to hit the road in support of their forthcoming three-album platter ’¡Uno!’, ‘¡Dos!’ and ‘¡Tre!’ — and if bassist Mike Dirnt is to believed, the calendar could be well into the aughts before they step off.
Earlier this summer, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan spoke out against the touring “nostalgia acts” recently put on by bands from the so-called grunge generation, saying such reunion treks “subvert the original meaning of the grunge generation’s music, which is rebellion.” Now Corgan is back at it, going so far as insisting that these days such groups are just going after the filthy lucre – and this time around, he’s also naming names.
Ahead of their forthcoming barrage of three new albums known as ‘¡Uno!,’ ‘¡Dos!’ and ‘¡Tres!,’ Green Day will treat their especially dedicated uber-fans with the release of a box set featuring all eight of their previous full-length studio albums. Titled, appropriately, ‘The Studio Albums 1990-2009,’ the set will be available exclusively through Best Buy retailers on Sept. 4.
