Generations of rock musicians will collide in the fall when John Fogerty, the legendary frontman for Creedence Clearwater Revivial, will release ‘Wrote A Song For Everyone.’ The album features Fogerty re-recording some of his classic songs with an assortment of performers from the pop, rock and country genres.

Three acts from the alternative and indie world have been confirmed for the project. Foo Fighters will sing ‘Fortunate Son,’ Creedence’s 1969 protest song about how children of privilege did not have to fight in Vietnam. My Morning Jacket and Dawes, worthy heirs to Jackson Browne’s realm of world-weary folk-rock, will also contribute to the project.

Creedence Clearwater Revival were one of the most successful and prolific bands of their day. Between 1968 and 1974 they recorded seven albums and had ten Top Ten hits, including ‘Proud Mary,’Bad Moon Rising’ and ‘Have You Ever Seen the Rain?’ They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Fogerty had several hits as a solo artist in the 1970s and 1980s, notably ‘Rockin’ All Over the World,’ ‘Centerfield’ and ’The Old Man Down the Road.’ The latter of those songs sparked a famous 1985 lawsuit where Fogerty was unsuccessfully sued by his old label for plagiarizing his own work.

The album’s title, ‘Wrote a Song For Everyone,’ comes from Creedence’s 1969 album, ‘Green River.’  The song was covered in 2010 by gospel legend Mavis Staples on her Grammy-winning album, ‘You Are Not Alone,’ which was produced by Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy.
