On Friday, United Way of Missoula County is rallying hundreds of volunteers for Day of Action. Erin Wilkins is the Director of Development & Marketing and she says this is an annual event that mobilizes the caring power of volunteers to make a meaningful impact at local nonprofits.

“The projects that are going to happen are things that otherwise wouldn’t happen,” Wilkins said. “They are things like cleaning out the Bancroft Ponds so that everybody in Missoula can enjoy it. They are also helping weed at Garden City Harvest Community Gardens so that they are able to grow more food. It is projects like that that the 15 volunteer teams are going to accomplish by giving their time to the community.”

According to Wilkins, this is a chance for people to come together and make Missoula stronger.

“We are going to kick things off with a breakfast at Bonner Park at 8 a.m.,” Wilkins said. “Rain or shine, the volunteers are going to be out there making things happen in the community. This is all thanks to our generous sponsors HDR Engineering, Providence St. Patrick Hospital and Stockman Bank.”

Last year, more than 520 United Ways in 19 countries participated on Day of Action. Thousands of volunteers made their communities better by volunteering just a few hours on the longest day of the year. Folks are encouraged to visit MissoulaUnitedWay.org for more information.
