Insane 21st Birthday Pub Crawl Drinks at Popular Missoula Bars
Montana has plenty of places that offer "adult beverages." In fact, Montana has 1 bar for every 1,633 residents. Needless to say, we won't die of thirst here in Big Sky Country.
There is a certain rite of passage for those who are starting their "Adventure in Booze-Land." When a person is of legal age to drink, it is only fitting to celebrate with copious amounts of booze, stumbling from bar to bar, flashing your ID without a care in the world, drunkenly shouting, "IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!"
Oh, I can remember my 21st birthday adventure--one that started innocently enough. A few drinks here. A couple of shots there. Only to end with me breaking into my brother's house and dumping five pounds of flour on him and my sister-in-law while they were sleeping. Come to think of it, my memory is a little hazy. Regardless, I had a good time. (NOTE: Family holidays have been awkward ever since...DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME)
If you are turning 21, and you are looking to have a good time (minus the breaking and entering,) why not take a tour of the "barmuda triangle" that is downtown Missoula.
FERUQI'S (318 N HIGGINS)
Feruqi's has always been a must-stop for anyone celebrating their birthday, especially your 21st birthday. Why? Because of the legendary "Flaming Blue Lamborgini a.k.a Flambos."
As you may assume by the name, yes it involves fire. But, who doesn't want a little thrill in their birthday celebration? Just watch out for your eyebrows.
James Bar (127 W ALDER)
Let's face it...you're an adult now. You are 21 years old. No need to get offended by "adult language," especially when it comes to getting a tasty concoction of booze.
James Bar is not only a cool spot to get something to eat or have a beverage, but it's also where you can snag yourself the coveted "Blow Job Shot." It consists of Irish cream and coffee liqueur, and plenty of whipped cream. So it could get messy.
Al's and Vic's (122 W Alder)
Located next door to Jame's Bar, Al's and Vic's has been a favorite spot for many Missoulians and is a must-stop place downtown, regardless of whether it's your birthday or not.
However, if it is your birthday, feel free to ask for the 'Shot and a Shotgun." This one is guaranteed to get you well lubricated for your adventure. This one requires simply popping a hole in the side of a Rainer beer can and drinking it as quickly as possible, followed by a mystery shot of the bartender's choice.
Iron Horse (107 W SPRUCE)
It is not wise to go out on the town with an empty stomach. That is why I always like to start my night getting some chow at the Iron Horse.
Not only do they have an awesome menu, but you can treat yourself to a FREE shot of your choice (under $5.) If it's your 21st birthday, of course.
Thomas Meagher Bar (130 W PINE)
Named after the "Irish General," the Thomas Meagher Bar is another great spot for good food and plenty of Irish whisky.
On your birthday, make sure to stop in and ask for a "Meagher Bomb" a drink that consists of dunking a combination of Irish cream and Irish whisky into a glass of stout beer. Bottoms up!
Bodega (206 RYMAN ST)
Bodega is in the heart of the "Barmuda Triangle." No matter the occasion, chances are you will find yourself at Bodega. But, if you find yourself there on your 21st birthday, you may find yourself drinking something a little strange.
Bodega proudly offers 21st birthday boys and girls what is called a "Mexican Tapeworm." No, it is not the latest diet trend from south of the border. It is simply a shot of tequila, with just a squirt of mayo. YUM!
RED'S BAR (217 RYMAN ST)
Just across the ally from Bodega, you will find the OG sports bar in Missoula. Red's is also located in the middle of the "Barmuda Triangle" and has a tendency to suck you in. If you find yourself at Red's on your birthday, prepare yourself for the Jedice Shot, a bizarre concoction of root beer and Rum Chatta.
Missoula Club A.K.A "MO CLUB" (147 W MAIN ST)
One of Missoula's most iconic bars is known for more than just their amazing burgers. The "Mo Club" downtown will gladly add some of that hamburger goodness to your birthday shot by simply adding a little burger grease to your favorite booze. Also known as "The Grease Shot."
STOCKMANS BAR (129 W FRONT ST)
When it comes to bars that resemble the "Cheers" style of bars, it seems that everybody knows your name at Stocks. I'm pretty sure this bar is the reason why Black Velvet whisky is still in business. This is why they are more than happy to hook you up with a "WALBERG" on your 21st birthday. A simple combination of Black Velvet and coke.
These are just a few of the many bars in Missoula, that you may find yourself at during your 21st birthday adventure.
Now is the part where I tell you to PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBLY. It's not every day you turn 21, but it would be awesome if you stick around for your 22nd birthday.
NOTE: NOT ALL SPECIALS ARE FREE $$$. Bring money, and remember to tip your servers generously for putting up with you on your birthday.
