A Missoula Beer Was Named The Best in Montana
I fancy myself as someone who knows a decent amount of beer - of course, whenever I have one, my general reaction is just "it's good!" and that's pretty much it. For whatever reason, whenever I try to describe it, I fall flat (no pun intended). Is it bitter? Is it hoppy? Is there a light, fruity aroma that lingers on the tongue for a moment?
I don't know! The beer is good, what can I tell you? Maybe that's why I'm not part of the American Homebrewers Association (I mean, I haven't been formally asked, and also I don't know how to be a part of it, but I think it's probably that reason). But this is obviously a group that knows their beer, and they recently ranked the top beers in the entire country. Here's what they considered to be the top 5:
- 1. Bell’s Two Hearted Ale
- 2. Russian River Pliny the Elder
- 3. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
- 4. The Alchemist Heady Topper
- 5. Bell’s Hopslam
Bell Brewery, located in Michigan, took the number one AND the number 5 spot, but they must be doing something right. But what's cool is the AHA actually broke the list down even further, and decided to list the best beer in every state in the US. So what was their pick for Montana?
Turns out, it's actually a Missoula favorite - Big Sky Brewing's Moose Drool! I didn't expect to see a brown ale top our list - and the competition was pretty fierce from a wide variety of local breweries - but the Moose Drool is a pretty great choice.
Do you think it deserves the title of Montana's best beer? Or should something else take the crown?
