A Perfect Circle’s ‘Eat the Elephant’ Hits No. 3 on Billboard Chart, Sleep Crack Top 50
April 20 was one of the biggest release days so far in 2018 with a swath of bands delivering new records on the famed stoner holiday. A Perfect Circle had promised their first slab of original music since 2003 while Sleep did the same albeit with a surprise tactic, issuing The Sciences without warning. Now, the numbers are in and both bands made their mark on the Billboard 200 chart.
Eat the Elephant, the latest from A Perfect Circle, landed at No. 3 in its debut week, continuing a remarkable streak of charting inside the top five with every album (save for compilations), a distinction that began when their debut record, Mer De Noms peaked at No. 4. As Billboard reports, Eat the Elephant moved 68,000 units, with physical sales accounting for most of that total with 63,000.
Meanwhile, stoner icons Sleep, who had long been at work on a highly-anticipated new record, made their Billboard 200 debut with the six-track The Sciences, landing at No. 49 with 11,000 units moved per Lambgoat. The album wasn't a complete surprise as word had spread quickly the day before the album hit with the artwork and track listing appearing on Apple Music.
A Perfect Circle also made an impact with their new record as it is the world's first hologram album. The Eat the Elephant box set includes a hologram prism that, when laid over a smart phone, displays a cinematic scene that plays out across the duration of the album. Check it out in an unboxing video here.
