British metalcore vets Architects have released a cover of the Deftones’ classic “Change (In The House Of Flies).” The group recorded the tune at London’s Abbey Road Studios for a Spotify Singles session, where they also laid down a rendition of “Death Is Not Defeat,” which originally appeared on their 2018 album Holy Hell.

The Deftones are a huge influence on the band and back in 2014 frontman Sam Carter told Metal Hammer he admires their longevity and that they’ve “released nothing but consistently brilliant albums." “Change (In The House Of Flies)” is featured on the Deftones’ 2000 album White Pony, which Carter says “sounds better than any album I’ve ever heard,” adding “it’s just total genius.”

Architects version of the song doesn’t veer to far from the original while keeping true to their sound. The strings are a little more forward in the mix and really cut through to make the cover stand out.

Holy Hell marks the band's first recording following the untimely death of founding member and chief songwriter Tom Searle in 2016. Back in November, Carter told Full Metal Jackie how recording the album was a painful, yet cathartic experience. "I think the main thing for us was having something to focus on that wasn't our own personal grief. Being able to put the emotions of grief into our music kind of helped us," he said, noting, "It was great, but at the end of recording the record that's when everything really hit me. I was able to actually stop and look back and everything was actually quite painful."

The group is on tour in Europe and will return to the States starting on April 26 in Anaheim, California. See all their tour dates here.
