Billie Joe Armstrong Hospitalized, Green Day Cancel Italy Performance
Green Day were forced to cancel their scheduled concert in Bologna, Italy yesterday (Sept. 2) when frontman Billie Joe Armstrong became ill and was hospitalized.
Details on Armstrong’s illness have not been made public, but fellow band members Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool released a brief video (shown below) announcing the cancellation to fans.
As Dirnt explained, “We apologize profusely. This is really unfortunate, but Billie got rushed to the hospital last night due to illness and the doctors don’t think it’s a good idea for him to play today. This sucks. We really, really were looking forward to playing in Bologna as the highlight of our tour.”
Cool spoke up next, making sure to relay a message from Armstrong as well: “We’re beyond devastated. We’re as sad as you guys are. Billie is extremely upset about it, and we’ll see you very soon.” Dirnt then wrapped up the video clip by saying, “We apologize but we love you guys and we’ll be back as soon as we can.”
The band also shared the following message on their official website: “We are beyond devastated and will make it up to you when we come back next summer.”
