Bozeman Man Wonders Why Area Ski Hills Smell Like Marijuana
Have you ever been to a ski resort and caught a strong whiff of marijuana? If so, you're not alone.
If you were surprised by it, you probably don't know much about the ski culture in Montana. I know a lot of people who ski or snowboard, and a lot of them like to enhance their experience by smoking weed. Some of them really enjoy firing up a doobie on top of a mountain.
At many area ski resorts, there are even shacks and shanties where skiers and riders can take a quick break and indulge in the devil's lettuce. They may be hard to find, but they exist. Most of them are located in places that only locals know about.
The sale of recreational cannabis was legalized in Montana on January 1, so it's no surprise that more people are smoking it in public places. You may not have to deal with it on the streets of downtown Bozeman, but if you head up to Bridger Bowl or Big Sky Resort, the strong odor of marijuana can be fairly common. Don't worry, there's no reason to be alarmed.
Recently, on The Real Ask Bozeman Facebook page, a man asked why Bridger Bowl always smells like weed.
Is Bridger Bowl made out of Marijuana? The whole mountain smells like the art teacher’s office when I’m up there.
In other words, a local man recently discovered Montana ski culture. For many folks, the fact that a lot of skiers and snowboarders like to toke up is common knowledge. Since recreational cannabis is legal in Montana now, the smell is something that we're all just going to have to get used to.
