Catching Perch Through the Ice in Western Montana
I love ice fishing. It is probably because I can't afford a boat, and it is the only time of year I can walk out to the fishing holes. Regardless, it is my favorite winter sport. I especially enjoy catching yellow perch. Not just because they are fun to catch, but they are also delicious.
I recently took a trip to Lake Mary Ronan, west of Flathead Lake. With plenty of pole, bait and a pop up ice house, I was ready for a fun day. Using an underwater camera, I was able to immerse myself into the perch habitat. It was so cool to watch their reactions to the presentation of different lures and bait. And even though I only left the lake with 10 fish, I was definitely entertained all day.
