Mementos From Chester Bennington’s Memorial Service Showed Up on eBay
Items distributed at Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington's memorial service briefly appeared on eBay, fetching a bid of more than $50,000.
Included in this ghoulish auction were a funeral program, wristband, lanyard and a pin with an engraved signature. As word spread, however, both auctions were terminated. Still unclear is whether the mementos were authentic – and from whom they were obtained.
Posts shared by outraged fans captured the eBay auctions before they were removed.
The private service for Bennington was held on July 29 at the South Coast Botanical Garden in California, and attended by hundreds of family members and friends. Kerrang! confirmed that mourners received these special packages; they are also shown in social media posts by friends like Austin Carlile, Of Mice and Men's former singer; and the hip-hop artist Blackbear.
"The service today was beautiful," Carlile wrote on Instagram. "Thank you Linkin Park, thank you Chester. For everything." Blackbear called it a "beautiful ceremony" via Twitter. "A lil piece of u has & will be in every song i sing on stage forever."
Bennington, who briefly fronted Stone Temple Pilots as well, killed himself at his California home on July 20. Bennington, who was just 41, had recently performed "Hallelujah" at the funeral of Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, a close friend who also recently died by suicide. Bennington's death came on Cornell's birthday.
