Costco Recalls Popular Jerky Over Metal Contamination
If you recently purchased a bulk package of beef sticks at Costco to store in your glove box, backpack, or tackle box, go check your stash. Seriously. If you’re looking to pack a healthy protein punch with a not-so-bad-for-you beef stick, chances are Chomps has hit your radar. They’re the brand we’ve all come to know and love for their trendy, protein-packed beef sticks, and they just put out a recall for a certain batch of their Original Beef Sticks because, um… they may be packing a crunchy little surprise in the form of metal fragments.
Yup. Metal. In your meat snack.
The recall includes 12-count pouches of Chomps Original Beef Sticks (UPC: 856584004763), which were available for purchase at Costco between Feb. 4 and March 21, 2025. These were sold to retailers nationwide, and the recall is taking place in 22 states, including Montana. So if you have a bag hidden in your pantry next to the emergency peanut butter and expired Top Ramen, it’s time for some recon work.
Here’s what to look for:
Establishment number: 6220A (see back of stick)
Affected Lot Numbers: 25016, 25017, 25018, 25020, 25021
Individual UPC: 856584004183
Despite no injuries reported, biting into a beef stick only to find a bit of metal mixed in doesn’t sound like it feels good.
If you have the recalled batch, do not eat them unless you enjoy chewing on scrap metal. You can bring the product back to Costco and be offered a refund. Or you can simply throw it out and move on with your life. Questions? Chomps has a recall hotline (855-636-1150), and you can also email them at recallteam@chomps.com.
Check your snacks before your next road trip or before you head out to go fishing. The last thing you want to do is ruin a gorgeous Montana day cracking a molar on a meat stick.
