Did You Know That ‘The Shining’ Filmed at Glacier National Park?

We're getting close to Halloween, and that always gets me in the mood to watch some of my favorite horror movies. I've got a few movie traditions every year, and always make time to watch the original Halloween, the modern classic Trick 'r Treat, and of course, Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining. 

The Shining is awesome, but up until now I didn't realize that it also shared a local connection for Montanans. You know the iconic opening shots of the Torrance family driving to the Overlook Hotel? Well, those were filmed on Going-to-the-Sun Road, leading into Glacier National Park.

The rest of the film was mostly shot in England, but the long, windy nature of Going-to-the-Sun Road made it the perfect lead-up to the horrors that await at the Overlook. The road makes another appearance in a pretty famous film sequence, too - it shows up briefly during the cross-country run in Forrest Gump.

Now, here's my question - there's a new movie hitting theaters soon called Doctor Sleep which acts as a direct sequel to The Shining. Could the road make another appearance, either in old footage or stuff shot for the new one? We'll have to wait until November to find out.
