Dine Like a Dutton: 5 Montana Meals to Savor Watching Yellowstone
It has been quite some time since I took a television drama so seriously, that I had to make an entire meal just to properly enjoy the show.
Foe example, in the early 2000s I would make a GIANT Italian pasta meal for me and my friends. Everything from chicken parmesan to garlic bread. And don't forget a couple bottles of wine. Why was I so excited to make such a big meal? The "Sopranos" aired a new episode every Sunday at 8 pm. I wanted to make it authentic and what Italian family doesn't have a giant meal on Sundays?
Fast forward to today, and we are getting fired up for the premiere of the second half of Season 5 of the hit show "Yellowstone." But, what kind of food does a family of cattle ranchers and lawyers enjoy on a Sunday night in Montana? Should I grill up some elk steak and fry some walleye fillets? (Mmmm! Montana Surf n Turf)
Fans of the show have watched many scenes of the show centered around the Dutton family's dinner table. But what kind of meals were the Duttons enjoying?
We sorted through all 5 seasons of the show and came up with your top 5 menu items for your next "Yellowstone" binge.
- Fried Bread with Scrambled Eggs and Salsa: In Season 3, Episode 9 ("Meaner Than Evil"), Gator serves Kayce fried bread topped with scrambled eggs and salsa for breakfast. Montana families are no strangers to fry bread. It is a staple in Native American cooking.
- Lobster: Gator makes lobster in Season 4, Episode 5 ("Under a Blanket of Red") for the family dinner. The upscale choice surprises some family members since they are used to more of a "steak and potatoes" diet.)
- Clam Chowder and Champagne: In Season 4, Episode 6 ("I Want to Be Him"), Beth is seen enjoying a bowl of clam chowder, which Gator prepares for her. Washing it all down with a bottle of champagne.
- Breakfast Spread with Pancakes: Gator’s breakfasts are a recurring comfort for the Dutton family. In several episodes, including Season 4, Episode 7 ("Keep the Wolves Close"), he prepares a breakfast spread with classic American staples like pancakes, bacon, eggs, and sausages.
- Filet Mignon and Roasted Vegetables: In Season 5, Episode 3 ("Tall Drink of Water"), Gator is seen preparing filet mignon with a side of roasted vegetables. A typical meal for a rancher/state Governor.
If those meals don't tickle your fancy, you can always grill some octopus, just like Gator made in Season 5, Episode 2 (“The Sting of Wisdom”)...
