33 year-old Trevor Looney of Stevensville was arrested early Christmas morning by the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office and charged with deliberate homicide and possession of dangerous drugs.

Sheriff Steve Holton said early Saturday morning that his deputies responded to a shooting that had occurred on 5th Street in Stevensville just a few minutes after midnight on Christmas morning.

The altercation between Looney and the victim, who was identified as 39 year-old John Komotios of Missoula, Flathead and Lake Counties, were involved in an altercation which resulted in Komotios being struck by multiple gunshot wounds fired from a handgun by the suspect.

Holton said there were no other people in the Stevensville apartment at the time of the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing, and Sheriff Holton is asking anyone who may have information about Looney’s behavior and travels either before or leading up to the fatal shooting is asked to contact the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office and Detective Sergeant Matt Cashell.

Holton thanks Lake County Sheriff and Coroner Don Bell for his assistance in locating and notifying the victim’s family.

Looney is currently in the Ravalli County Detention Center and the bond amount is unknown.
