Fireworks Are Here, Montana. Tips To Help Your Dog Cope

In Montana, we're pretty big fans of fireworks or anything that goes "boom" for that matter. Our pets, however, are not. What can you do to help keep them safe and maybe even comfortable over the 4th of July?

Fireworks are big business in Montana. According to our sister station, XL Country, we rank just outside of the top 10 in sales. That's great for profits, but not so much for your furry buddy.

The days building up to and even after the 4th are just the worst for my dog, and I'm sure many of yours as well. She used to run and hide under the bed and you couldn't get her to move for all the treatos in the world. Over the last few years, I have cultivated a few things to help alleviate their stress and anxiety.

Put On A Loud Action Movie

My vet actually introduced this to me a few years ago. Put on some sort of loud war movie to kind of blend in or drown out the outside explosions. It's not 100% effective but does seem to help for sure. I suggest Saving Private Ryan.

Calming Treats

This can definitely be a lifesaver, and there are tons on the market. Look out for ingredients that might not agree with your upper like CBD. And please consult your vet before giving them any new food or treats

Close The Windows

Try your best to muffle the outside noise as well as block any of the flashes of lights that might get their attention.

Keep Them Busy

If you're going to be out and about enjoying the festivities, try and leave some sort of toy or treat game for them to play with. Anything to keep their attention away from the noise and lights can definitely help.
