Fish Food Theft and Eating in Store Lead to Attack, Felony Arrest
Just before 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 30, Missoula police were called out to the Walmart on Mullan Road and eventually arrested 28-year-old Logan Moore on felony charges. According to Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh, store employees called police after noticing some odd behavior.
"Initially, loss prevention observed Mr. Moore when he was walking through the store consuming food that he had picked up from the deli inside the store," Welsh said. "Later he was observed removing a package of fish food from the shelf, concealing it on his person and then leaving without paying for it."
Mr. Moore reportedly fought with employees after they confronted him about the consumed and pocketed merchandise, which is where the felony charge comes into the picture.
"It doesn't sound like there were any serious injuries, but in an attempt to get away he physically fought with loss-prevention until he could break free and get away from them," Welsh said. "Officers got a description of the male and the direction of travel and located him in an adjacent business... hiding."
Welsh says Moore still had the stolen fish food on him when he was caught in hiding. The attack on store employees escalated what would have likely been misdemeanor theft charges into an accusation of felony robbery.
