Griz Prepare to Face South Dakota in a Potential Playoff Preview
On Saturday, our University of Montana Grizzlies return to Washington-Grizzly Stadium to face off against the South Dakota Coyotes in a battle between two playoff teams from last season.
The Griz are 1-0 on the season after dominating Northwestern State last week 47-0 and they currently lead all of Division-I football in turnover margin. The Griz are +5 on turnovers after recovering three fumbles and intercepting two passes. Montana is also currently ranked No. 2 in the AFCA coaches poll and No. 3 in the Stats Perform media poll.
The Coyotes are 0-1 to start the year after losing 34-0 to the Big 12's Kansas State Wildcats, but don't let that score fool you. South Dakota comes to Missoula as a program with immense potential after Coach Bob Nielson's program advanced to the playoffs last season for the first time since 2017. The Coyotes have a great defense this year that is led by All-American linebacker Brock Morgensen who had 12 tackles last week.
The Griz don't start conference play until their homecoming game against Portland State on September 24, but that doesn't mean the game this weekend isn't a big one. Montana will need Washington-Grizzly Stadium to bring the noise for a battle between two potential playoff teams.
