Illegal Names You Are NOT Allowed to Name Your Kids In Montana

Are you expecting a "little bundle of joy?" Have you thought of what to name the addition to your family? Naming your child can be difficult. It is the name that your child will live with for their entire life. Granted, they will probably have plenty of nicknames along the way. Their "legal" name is the one they are going to see on all of their mail and taxes.

Did you know there are laws on naming your baby?

It's true. Each state has different laws in regard to naming your child. Some are actually pretty bizarre.

For example:

• In Arizona, your child's name cannot exceed 141 characters. So basically your kid's name cannot be longer than a tweet.
• In Nebraska, you cannot name your child an obscene name. So I guess "Poop Factory" is out of the question?
• In Florida, if both parents don't agree on a name, the State of Florida will name the kid for you.

Some baby naming rules blanket the entire US. According to usbirthcertificates.com, there are some baby names that are banned in the US.

As for here in Montana, the naming rules are pretty lenient. There are not a ton of things your baby cannot be named.

Montana has no rules on baby names, but its data system doesn’t allow for special symbols. If a parent wants to use a symbol, once they receive the birth certificate, they can write it in and send it back to the vital records office for approval.

So, unlike Nebraska, Montanans can name their baby "Poop Factory," but not "#P00PFACT*RY?" Maybe just stick to the popular names?
