Investigation Continues into Cause of Roaring Lion Fire

The Roaring Lion fire grew Wednesday, August 17, in two general areas - southeast of the Ward bowl and northwest up Sawtooth Creek. The blaze has burned 8,465 acres so far. About 76 people are assigned to the forest fire.

Bitterroot National Forest officials said three more firefighters were added to the smokejumpers in the Ward Mountain bowl to keep the fire inside the bowl boundaries.

Crews will also be in the Camas Creek area, working to prevent any fire outside the perimeter. Aircraft are again taking to the skies today to help keep the fire in check.

Meanwhile, the Ravalli County Sheriff's Office and the Forest Service Law Enforcement agency are continuing their investigation of how the fire started July 31.

The officers established the origin of the fire and have studied the area, but are also asking for the public's help. Ravalli County Undersheriff Steve Holton said that anyone with information regarding the start of the fire on that Sunday, July 31, should contact the sheriff's office at (406) 363-4060 or use the Sheriff's app on a mobile phone.
