Major I-90 Construction Project Begins in Western Montana
You know the old, slightly annoying Montana joke? "There are two seasons in Montana: Winter and construction season."
As campy as that joke is, it's not wrong. Then again, you could say that about nearly every northern state. Construction crews have to capitalize on the nicer weather before the White Walkers take over from November to March again.
And now, one of Montana's busier summer corridors is about to feel it.
Crews begin to resurface Interstate 90 in Montana
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) sent out a press release informing us of the beginning of construction season.
" The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), along with construction partner Riverside Contracting, Inc., will resurface sections of Interstate 90 (I-90) between Saltese and Haugan, mile markers 11.2 to 15.7. Work will begin the week of May 25, weather and other factors permitting." - Joan Redeen via DoT's Press Release

The four-mile stretch will slow traffic down to 35 mph and bottleneck traffic down to one lane.
"Resurfacing work will include milling the existing surface, applying a seal and cover (chip seal), and fog seal, along with new pavement markings and signage."
Be aware that if you are driving into Idaho this summer, it will be an all-day, all-summer project. The estimated time of completion is the end of August, and crews will be present from 6 am to 9 pm.

Be extra careful with wide loads. If you're carrying something more than 12 feet wide, you are allowed to pass through the area only between 6 and 8 am Monday - Friday.
