Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On February 12, 2026, at approximately 7:15 p.m., deputies with the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office responded to Target on Reserve Street after Jane Doe called 911. Doe reported that she has an order of protection against 30-year-old Vincent Garbe and that Garbe violated the order by making contact with her at Town Pump at the Wye. Doe advised that she told Garbe to follow her to Target, which gave her time to call 911 to get help.

Doe explained that Garbe was driving a stolen white Subaru. She provided the Subaru’s license plate to law enforcement. Dispatch determined that Garbe had an active $150,000 warrant out of Sanders County for PFMA/Strangulation charges. A deputy located the Subaru traveling southbound on Reserve Street, which was being driven by Garbe. Garbe turned onto Union Pacific and then into the Target parking lot. The deputy activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop.

Garbe did not pull over, but instead, accelerated through the parking lot and ran the stop sign between the parking lot and Palmer Street. Garbe continued on Palmer and ran the stop sign at the intersection of Palmer and Great Northern Ave. at speeds in excess of 50 MPH. Other deputies with MCSO also joined the pursuit.

Garbe continued on Palmer, accelerating to approximately 80 MPH. He then turned into the business complex at 2700 Palmer and rammed the Subaru through a closed gate. When Garbe rammed through the gate, it rebounded and struck the deputy’s patrol car, causing damage to the deputy’s front bumper and passenger door, as well as damage to another deputy’s patrol car. The gate was valued between $7,000-$8,000.

Garbe continued fleeing onto Charlo Street and ignored the stop sign at the intersection of Charlo and Broadway Street. Then Garbe crossed Broadway at speeds of approximately 50 MPH. The traffic on Broadway was heavy at that time, and Garbe narrowly missed crashing into multiple vehicles.

At the intersection of Commerce and Railroad, Garbe narrowly avoided hitting a person on a scooter. Once on Railroad, Garbe sped up to approximately 70 MPH. He then turned onto N. Russell Street and then onto N. Palmer to avoid rear-ending a bus. Garbe finally turned onto N. Caravan, which dead-ended, forcing Garbe to a stop.

Garbe opened the driver’s door and began to exit the vehicle on foot. Fearing for the safety of residents in the neighborhood, the deputy made the decision to use his patrol vehicle to pin Garbe’s door closed to prevent his escape. Deputies took Garbe into custody and transported him to jail without further incident. Garbe declined to provide a statement.

Garbe is currently being charged with felony criminal endangerment, felony criminal mischief, felony theft of property of a light vehicle, felony aggravated fleeing from an officer, violation of an order of protection, and theft. His bond was set at $1,000,000.
