Repeat Offender Gets Arrested for Robbery in Missoula
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On March 26th, 2024 at approximately 3:35 AM, Missoula Police Department officers were dispatched to the Citi Lodge Hotel located on Broadway Street. The officers immediately separated 48-year-old Amy Hout from an adult female identified as Jane Doe.
The officer spoke to Doe who stated that as she was walking towards the Poverello Center, she observed Hout knocking on doors at the City Lodge. Hout spotted Doe and stated, “You better give me some s**t or I’m taking your backpack.” Hout allegedly waved a stick as she made this statement.
Doe said she told Hout that she didn’t have anything and Hout responded by telling Doe that she was going to take her backpack. According to court documents, Hout then jerked the backpack from Doe. Doe said she initially thought that Hout was joking and let the backpack go.
Hout proceeded to empty Doe’s backpack and dump the contents on the sidewalk. Officers observed miscellaneous items strewn about the ground. Doe asked Hout to at least allow her to have her cellphone. She indicated that the cellphone was the only thing that Hout picked up off the ground after she emptied the purse.
Doe said she was not hurt during the incident and dodged a stick Hout threw at her. She advised that Hout’s stick would be found near her belongings. Officers located a stick approximately two feet in length near Doe’s location. The officers collected, photographed, and booked the stick as evidence.
Witness Explains What He Saw
Officers also spoke to a security officer who stated that he saw Hout “come at [Doe] with the stick.” He advised that Hout hit Doe with it after she threw it at her. He claimed that he saw the “whole yelling match” and watched as Hout threw Jane Doe’s belongings everywhere.
The security officer also stated that prior to the incident between Doe and Hout, Hout was causing problems at the Poverello Center. He stated that she was banging or slamming the back door and harassing staff.
An officer attempted to speak to Hout about what occurred. He documented in his report that her statement was “all over the place and did not make sense.” He noted that Hout could not stand still while speaking with him and that she moved back and forth for much of the interview.
Hout was placed under arrest and was transported to the Missoula County Detention Center. She is currently being charged with felony robbery and assault. On March 28, 2024, Hout made her initial appearance in Missoula Justice Court and her bond was set at $25,000.
Hout has been arrested multiple times in Missoula over the past few years.
