Kevin Smith first ended his “View Askewniverse” of interconnected movies (if nothing else, the concept was way ahead of its time) with 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. But after his next picture, Jersey Girl, was a flop, he returned to the old characters for 2006’s Clerks II. And while that remained his final Jersey stoner comedy for over a decade, he’s now come back home once more. Above, watch the trailer for what’s called Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

The stoner icons who first hit the screen 25 years ago in CLERKS are back! When Jay and Silent Bob discover that Hollywood is rebooting an old movie based on them, the clueless duo embark on another cross-country mission to stop it all over again!

It’s pretty surreal to see all the old View Askewniverse actors back, even the ones like Jason Lee and Ben Affleck who haven’t been in anything Smith’s done for years and decades. The notion of Hollywood rebooting Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back seems ridiculous given how all the old Kevin Smith movies did at the box office ... and yet here is a “reboot” (sequel really) and it is actually coming to theaters on October 15. So maybe it’s not ridiculous at all.
