Fire Breaks Out at Kalispell’s New Costco Construction Site
Kalispell’s about to get a new Costco, and this isn’t just a bigger parking lot shuffle. The entire store will be moving north to a development that developers are calling the city’s latest “community,” the North Town Center. Translation: acres of pristine pavement, some shiny new warehouses, and if we’re lucky, even more gas pumps to fight over on a Saturday morning.
North Town Center Takes Shape
The new store will sit near Highway 93, the site of a massive mixed-use development. Think houses, stores, offices, and now the mothership of bulk shopping. That puts Costco at the anchor of Kalispell’s growth spurt, a clear declaration that the north side is where the city is stretching out.
The Fire That Almost Stole the Show
Naturally, nothing this big goes off without a hitch. On September 25th, social media lit up with video footage of what is assumed to be a welding truck at the construction site that caught fire. Fortunately, it wasn’t the building itself, just one hot truck testing the fire department’s response time. Some locals joked it looked like Costco tried to burn down before it even opened.
What Locals Can Expect
Plans are still full steam ahead, flames or not. The new Costco promises more room, easier access, and a friendlier flow for the thousands of carts buzzing through each week. For Flathead Valley shoppers, that could mean shorter checkout lines, more open gas pumps, and maybe even less circling for parking spots.
No word yet on when the stope will open. But, soon, Kalispell will be "grazing" their way through free samples at the new store.
