The warmer temperatures are slowly starting to arrive. The bears are waking up from their long winter's nap. The snow is starting to liquify and trickle downhill. There is only one place for that ice cold water to go. Floating season is almost underway and the water is starting to rise. The 30th Annual Lochsa River Rendezvous is this weekend at the Lochsa Lodge (April 30 - May 1.)

Floating the river on a hot summer day is a fun pastime for many of us here in the west. But, knowing that the water you are floating on was frozen snow just days ago, makes the thought of springtime floating a little more hardcore. Not to mention, the rising water levels makes for even more hardcore rapids. And few rivers are more extreme to navigate a raft though than the mighty Lochsa River.

According to Wikipedia

More than 60 rapids between Powell and Lowell, most of which are rated Class III-IV (medium to difficult). Depending on the discharge rate, the level of difficulty can rise in places to Class VI (the limits of navigation) on the International Scale of River Difficulty.

That makes for some non-stop entertainment for any whitewater enthusiast. If you are looking to celebrate the kick off of floating season. Then it is time to gear up for the Lochsa River Rendezvous.
