Machine Head Announce Farewell Tour, Members Quit
Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn has announced that both guitarist Phil Demmel and drummer Dave McClain have quit the band. Their upcoming fall headlining trek will go on as scheduled, but will also serve as the band's farewell tour.
You can watch Flynn's extensive video statement on the state of things below (the post also billed the upcoming dates as a "farewell tour") and check out the dates for their farewell run further down the page.
In the video, Flynn laments the loss of his two longtime bandmates, but offers praise of their abilities and their character. He promises this tour will be a celebration of this era of Machine Head and that he is unsure of what the future holds and that he will have to do some "soul-searching."
“I have held on too tight to the reins of this band and I have suffocated those guys,” the Machine Head frontman admitted, continuing, "I've got some rough edges; I'm kind of a barnacle. Those rough edges have given us the success we have but they've also hurt the people around me. I’ve got a lot of drive, but I’ve got a lot of anger and rage, and that drive of mine has alienated folks in the band. I ask that you respect Phil and Dave’s decision, as I respect their decision.”
