A good news/bad news weekly report from the Ravalli County Sheriff's Office. First, the bad news. Sheriff Steve Holton has noted a rise in property thefts and mail tampering in recent weeks. In his weekly crime report, Holton said rural areas can be a target for the crimes and he advised residents to know the time their mail usually arrives and try to check the mailbox early and often. You should also lock your vehicles, homes and outbuildings. Law enforcement is increasing its patrols, but he said that communities need to be aware of suspicious activities and report such vehicle and person descriptions to the Ravalli County Sheriff's Communication Center at (406)363-3033. On the other hand...

On a positive note, Holton thanked Erica for her donation of homemade surgical masks for the sheriff's deputies. The young woman flagged down a deputy last week and handed him the colorful creations. He said there were enough for every deputy in the staff. He and other officers showed off the masks at the Ravalli County Sheriff's Office cellphone App.
