Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds caused quite an uproar in a 2015 interview when he said, "I’ve been trying to get Mastodon to not be such a heavy metal band, because I f—ing hate heavy metal and I don’t want to be in a heavy metal band.”

In a new interview with Eddie Winter that you can check out above, Hinds says the quote, "was taken out of context." He adds, "I said 'I f--king hate most heavy metal,' is what I said. I don't like a lot of it. There's a lot of cookie-cutter bulls--t out there, in my opinion, and I don't like it. So I was just being honest."

Hinds continues, "And they just took the 'a lot' out and just put 'Brent Hinds hates metal' … These guys, I mean, they need people to come by and visit their web site, and how are they gonna do that without taking people's quotes out of context? They've gotta somehow sell magazines, so I can understand why they're doing it. But just keep me out of it. I don't really do that many interviews because of that kind of stuff."

In other Hinds news, the musician makes an appearance in the new Metal McDonald video "It Keeps You Running (To The Hills)" that you can watch below. The band combines Iron Maiden's metal stylings with the distinctive vocal style of the Doobie Brothers in a mashup of their songs "Run to the Hills" and "It Keeps You Running." Hinds plays "Basterd of the Universe" in the clip.

Mastodon's latest album, expected to be released this spring, is one of the year's most anticipated releases. Drummer Brann Dailor gave Loudwire the lowdown on the disc, saying, "We’re gonna start doing press for the record and hopefully get some final mixes pretty soon. Mastering, artwork, we always have some big grandiose package and lots of crazy art — all that stuff and at the same time think about going out on tour possibly late April, when the record comes out and what we want to do as far as production is concerned because I feel like we need to step it up."
