We all remember where we were when the events of September 11, 2001 hit us like a stack of bricks. I  didn't have cable at the time and was alerted to the chaos that was making news by a phone call from my dad. It took me a minute to realize he wasn't joking on the other end of the line. It was a simpler time - smart phones weren't the norm - so I had to set out in search of news and updates. Such a sad day in our country's history.

I have a friend with a 9/11 birthday and I always think it's such a bummer to have to try and make it a celebratory day when the nation's thoughts are in a different place.

Missoula's Memorial Rose Garden Park will host the 19th annual Never Forget Service on Friday to honor those lost in the attacks of 9/11. The event is hosted by the United Veterans Council of Missoula and Ravalli Counties. Beginning at 6 PM, 7,000 small American flags will be placed in the lawn to represent innocent victims (2,986) and first responders lost at Ground Zero in New York City.

An article in the Missoulian lists participating organizations as bagpiper members of the Celtic Dragon Pipe Band, American Legion Post 27 Color Guard, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 209 Honor Guard, University of Montana ROTC Color Guard, Missoula Civil Air Patrol Color Guard, and the Knights of Columbus Patriotic Order.

Attendees are requested to bring a mask, practice social distancing, and bring lawn chairs due to limited seating.
