Today, the Western Montana Fair invites you to wear red to grow awareness of the shocking number of missing and/or murdered Native American women & girls in Montana, and across the nation. According to the MMIW website:

4 out of 5 of our Native women are affected by violence today.

I personally have been affected by this issue, I honestly don't know any Natives who haven't been. So, we ask you to wear red to the Western Montana Fair today, to recognize this crisis and bring the subject of MMIW and girls to the forefront.

The Missoula Urban Indian Health Center will be hosting an event tonight at 7 p.m. in conjunction with the "Rock Your Red Rodeo."

This event will include an honoring drum song, a color guard of flags from all Montana tribes, and a procession of families impacted by the crisis.

Historically, red is the color associated with MMIWG awareness. We encourage you to wear red to the “Rock Your Rodeo Red” MMIWG event at the PRCA Rodeo.

All tribal members receive 50% off rodeo tickets.

You can also show your support for MMIWG families and survivors by purchasing an Indian Taco at the MUIHC booth and a Rock Your Rodeo Red t-shirt at the MUIHC informational booth. All proceeds go towards MMIWG families and community advocacy.

Indian Tacos are $9 and absolutely delicious! You can find he MUIHC booth at the east end of food row at the fair. Also, mad props to their booth for being awarded a Golden Apron for being declared "Best Fair Food," and for supplying environmentally friendly plates and plastic ware!

Please join us today at the fair, as we honor the lives and legacies of these indigenous women and girls.
