Missoula County Continues Monitoring Areas Affected By Flooding & Offering Assistance

County operations continue to focus on the Tower and Kehrwald and Schmidt Lane areas close to Missoula. The restrictions on 3^rd Street remain in effect. The stretch of road from 7^th and Clements to 3^rd and Hiberta remains open to local traffic only. Areas flooding further west of Missoula are Mallard Way, Primrose, and Harpers Bridge. East of Missoula, Schwartz Creek Road, Woodville, and 5^th Street in Clinton are experiencing high water as well. South of Missoula, East Carlton Creek just east of Highway 93 is eroded from high ground water and traffic is limited to one lane. Citizens are advised to use caution. Operations personnel continue to work to identify potentially affected areas and assist residents with sandbagging.

 Due to significantly lower call volume, the High Water Public Information Call Center’s hours have been reduced and will be operational from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Citizens can continue to call the public information line for information related to sandbags, high water, and volunteering. In the event high water activity increases significantly, the call canter’s hours will expand accordingly. Emergency calls should be directed to 9-1-1.

 Questions related to water quality and environmental health should be directed to the Missoula City-County Health Department at 258-4890 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Missoula County and the State of Montana are seeking federal assistance with this event. Residents and business affected by flooding are requested to fill out short forms provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) estimating damages and economic injury to facilitate that effort. The forms are being distributed by Missoula Rural Fire and Sheriff’s Office personnel in the affected areas. The forms can also be found on the County’s website. Individuals can return completed forms to Rural Fire and Sheriff’s Office personnel or drop them off at the County’s information desk on the 1^st floor of the Courthouse Annex. The forms must be completed and submitted by June 14^th, 2011.
