Missoula Crime Report: Juvenile Shot at Traffic and Homes, Also Killed a Dog
The Missoula County Attorney’s Office charged 13 new felony complaints this week, which is down from the trend that began in July. County Attorney Kirsten Pabst said that was a welcome relief, but that the cases this week were still serious in nature.
“We charged four partner or family member assault cases, two non-family member violent cases, two endangerment cases, both involving criminal endangerment and high-speed chases, two drug cases, one involved methamphetamine, heroin, and suspected fentanyl, one property crime that was a theft first offense, and two administrative crimes including failure to register as a sexual offender and a fugitive from justice out of the state of Washington,” Pabst said.
In one of the cases, a juvenile was charged with attempted deliberate homicide, aggravated animal cruelty, assault with a weapon, and aggravated burglary.
“In that case, the youth allegedly took his dad’s handgun and then drove around in a side-by-side shooting at vehicles driving in the opposite direction and shooting at homes,” Pabst said. “He allegedly shot and killed a dog and broke into a residence. It just goes on and on. In that particular case, we expect to charge him as an adult.”
Pabst also mentioned that she was really impressed by the number of bystanders that spoke up this week, which she says is quite unique.
“In almost all of the partner or family member assault cases that we charged this week, the victim’s danger and plight were brought to the attention of the authorities because responsible bystanders saw something and they called it in,” Pabst said. “Thank you to those people. We really appreciate that. You never know. If you see something, say something.”
