Missoula Relay For Life Gets Bigger, New Date Announced
Every June, family and friends of those who have fought cancer and many cancer survivors themselves gather for the Relay for Life here in Missoula. But according to Relay for Life coordinator Debbie Lawton, there are some big changes this year.
"The biggest change is that now, we have three relays in one. So, we have Ravalli County, Missoula County and the University relay all in one. And it's going to be in September, where we've always had it in June, that way the university students can participate.
Lawton hopes the extra time gives participants even more time to raise funds to help fight cancer.
"The Relay for Life is the signature event of The American Cancer Society. It's the event that does fundraising and the fundraising goes toward fighting cancer and also some of our local programs like Look Good, Feel Good and Road to Recovery. The event itself is like a big celebration, we want the survivors to come out, they are the ones that we are honoring, and once the fundraising is all done, this is like the big party!
In past years, the Relay for Life was often held at the Big Sky High school track, but this year it will be held at Community Medical Center on Saturday September 9th, between 4:00 p.m. and Midnight.
