Missoula’s Veterans Day Observations Planned for Thursday
First, to all our veterans: THANK YOU. Here's hoping you are acknowledged and feel appreciated on the day set aside to honor you.
Many local businesses offer nice little extras to veterans in the form of discounts as well as complimentary items. Our guess is that there will be a bounty of those around town as usual.
And as far as a formal tribute, Missoula has some traditional events planned for Veterans Day this Thursday, November 11. Those are in part organized by a tireless champion of such causes, Susan Campbell Reneau. So some quick props to recognize her efforts as well.
Thursday's activities include breakfast at American Legion Post 27 from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. The Post is located at 825 Ronan Street in Missoula. Donations accepted and appreciated but not required.
The Veterans Day 95th Annual Ceremony at the Missoula County Courthouse begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Doughboy Statue, located on the courthouse lawn at the corner of Broadway and Ryman Streets. Retired U.S. Air Force General Dale Stovall will be the guest speaker.
There is a scheduled appearance by Montana Governor Greg Gianforte. The Congressional Delegation will send representatives to read letters honoring everyone that has served in the military. Other scheduled ceremony participants include American Legion Post 27 Color Guard, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 209 Honor Guard and Knights of Columbus Patriotic Order.
Veterans Day (originally known as Armistice Day) is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans having served in the United States Armed Forces.
Whether you are a veteran or not, we hope you can attend the ceremony.
