On Saturday evening, July 15, Missoula Police responded to a call in which a woman claimed to have been violently attacked by her neighbor.

"Officers were called to a residence in the 2400 block of River Road where a woman reported that a 29-year-old neighbor by the name of James Skime had come over to her patio where she was sitting and grabbed her by the throat with one hand and struck her over the head with the other," said Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh.

Police reported seeing visible redness on the victim’s throat and attempted to find out exactly why the attack had occurred.

"This was apparently over a perception by the male suspect that the woman had come into his apartment  without his permission," Welsh said. "The officers spoke with both parties and others in the area, but had no reason to believe that that had occurred, or at least not under the circumstances that Mr. Skime had indicated."

Skime was charged with aggravated assault: a felony due to the life threatening risk posed by strangulation.
