The arctic cold front that rushed into Montana Monday, Labor Day, added a touch of white to the mountains - including the Bitterroot range (photos above and below). The storm also brought strong winds that toppled trees and caused power outages throughout the area. Along Highway 93 in Ravalli County, traffic signals failed to work at many intersections because of outages. Most disruptions were shortlived. Northwestern Montana received very high winds that also caused dock and boat damage from wind-driven waves. The cold temperatures dropped below freezing in many places and the forecast includes lows in the 30s through the middle of the week. Then the low temperatures will be back into the 40s and the highs should return to the 80s.
