Montana Archer Advances to World Cup Gold Match
If you’ve Ever launched an arrow at a 3D elk target in your back yard and thought, “Damn, I could go pro” please allow me to introduce you to the guy who is actually living that dream. His name is Kris Schaff, and he is from Billings, Montana.
Kris is not your average weekend warrior in camo. This guy’s representing Team USA in the 2025 Archery World Cup, and he’s going to the gold medal match alongside fellow compound bow slingers James Lutz and Sawyer Sullivan. All they have done is knock out some heavy hitters to earn a spot in the finals against Italy. Italians have been shooting archery long before making pizza and pasta noodles.
The U.S. team dialed it in at the most recent World Cup stage, in Florida (I know, not really elk country), and now Schaff’s got a shot, literally, at bringing home the gold. Again!!! If his name sounds familiar, it should. Kris would also be no stranger to medals, having stacked them like firewood, including a few golds, from the World Championships in 2017 and 2021. The man can shoot a stick and string.
For those of us here in Montana for whom archery season is life, it is the kind of dude that makes us proud to punch our tags and tune our bows. Whether you’re an avid tournament shooter or simply trying to bag a whitetail from 40 yards, watching a local boy like Schaff do his thing on a global stage smacks a little different.
Go get ’em, Kris. The Italy VS. USA match is scheduled for Saturday morning, 4/12.
