You know, I lived in New York for my entire life up until last year, and I only ever went to the Thanksgiving Day parade once. That means that one Montana student will have one up on me - not only will he be at the parade, but he'll actually be marching in the parade, too!

Derek Bane-Parsons, a student at Butte High School, was selected to march with the Great American Marching Band during Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this year. Derek is only 15 years old, and he's one of 200 musicians across the country who were picked to be part of the band.

He'll be playing the mellophone in the parade with support from his band teacher Jean Perusich. Millions of people make it a tradition to watch the parade on TV every year - so if you're in Montana, keep an eye out for Derek while you're watching this year!
