We all know Montana probably ranks pretty high when it comes to gun ownership numbers, the question is, how high?

If you grew up in Montana, or have been a resident for some time, you know Montana is an armed state. The amount of hunters and sportsmen alone definitely sets us apart from the other 49 states. I figured we ranked somewhere in the top 5 just off the top of my head. States like Alaska, Idaho, and the entire South would have ranked higher if I had to guess.

Nope.

According to worldpopulationreview.com, Montana ranks #1 in gun ownership, just squeaking out Wyoming.  Check the percentage of residents that own a firearm in the top 5 states according to the poll.

1. Montana 66.3%

2. Wyoming 66.2%

3. Alaska 64.5%

4. Idaho 60.1%

5. West Virginia 58.5%

Now these numbers can skew one way or the other a good percentage as well. Each state has its own firearm laws, and I can tell you from experience in Montana, many residents have way more guns than the government, or this poll would ever know about. *cough *cough

Here is another staggering data poll from the world population review, The United States far exceeds any other country in gun ownership as well. They estimate anywhere from 250 - 350 million guns. Again, these numbers can be very skewed due to different regulations and owners.

Now, to some, these numbers might be surprising, and even scary. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but as someone that was born in raised in the Big Sky State, it's nothing that has ever bothered me. Like most of you, I grew up hunting and sport shooting all my life. We took hunter safety from a very young age, and our parents, and family were always there to preach gun safety.  To me, it's just one of those things that make Montana "Montana".
