Well, well, well… Netflix takes the magic of Yellowstone, gives it an Australian accent, and calls it a day. Spoiler alert: That was not effective.

Their series Territory, which follows a ranching family wrestling cattle and drama in the Australian Outback, only lasted one full season before being canceled. Not even strong actors (like Anna Torv and Michael Dorman) and being placed on Netflix’s top 10 list in 74 countries could help it stick the landing.

According to Collider

Territory was commissioned in 2023 and premiered globally on Netflix on October 24, 2024, with immediate success. It reached the second position on the platform’s Global Top 10 English TV shows list within the first week of launch and attracted 6.4 million views in its first four days of airing.  However, it didn’t hit it big in the Netflix Top 10s as it spent only three weeks on the global chart, picking up 87.10 million viewing hours, summing up to around 15 million views.

We’ve seen Yellowstone transform our state into an Instagram hot spot. Our property prices are stratospheric, our sleepy towns are filled to the brim with people attempting to live out their cowboy-core fantasies (whatever those may be), and every other truck on the road has out-of-state plates.

So when Netflix figured it could copy-paste the Yellowstone recipe into Australia, we could’ve warned them. As we can clearly see from 'Yellowstone' creator, Taylor Sheridan, there is still money to be made from the franchise and all the spin-offs. But, Texas will most likely be the backdrop, not the Aussie outback.
