The University of Montana just recently unveiled completely new jerseys for a collection of upcoming basketball games. Not just jerseys with different designs but completely different colors. That's right! The Griz will remove the traditional marron and silver, and dress in new turquoise jerseys. All to recognize and honor UM's relationship with indigenous people.

These jerseys were created by Nike, as well as a special logo created by Um Alumni by a member of the Northern Cheyenne tribe, Benji Headswift.

These Jerseys were created to be featured in a pair of upcoming UM basketball games, Lady Griz on January 28th and Men's Griz on February 4th, all in an effort to raise awareness for the Nike N7 Fund.

What is the Nike N7 Fund?

According to the Nike website

Nike is focused on getting youth in Native American and Indigenous communities in North America moving through the N7 Fund—so they can lead healthier, happier, and more successful lives. Since its creation in 2009, the Nike N7 Fund has awarded more than $8 million in grants, administered by the Charities Aid Foundation of America, to more than 270 communities and organizations.

In an effort to promote the N7 Fund, as well as create promotional videos for the Nike brand, a group of Native American dancers was invited to Missoula to dance at the Adams Center. In fact, an entire family made their way from the Crow Reservation to dance for the Nike promo.

According to

In Missoula, one Crow family put on their regalia and did some traditional dancing for a promotional shoot at the University of Montana. Sports giant Nike traveled to Big Sky country and filmed Holly Old-Crow and her two children for the spot on the Griz basketball court.
