No Missoula Demo Derby? No Problem. Time For A Little Road Trip
We are without a Demo Derby at the Missoula fair once again this year, but that doesn't mean you have to miss out. How about a little drive to witness the carnage?
It's borderline insane for a Montana Fair to not have a Demolition Derby. Growing up in the Big Sky State, I've been to county fairs all across Montana. It goes together like Funnel Cakes and throw-up on the Gravitron.
Chances are you know someone or worked with someone that lived for this event every year. I can remember from a very young age watching my dad and his friends weld together a metal Frankenstein from parts and pieces they acquired from other mechanics and junkyards from across the state. Months before the county fair they were locked in the garage all weekend, and from what I remember, they loved every minute of it.
Now that there is no Demolition Derby at the Missoula County Fair, where do we go?
As it turns out, just down the road a bit, is the Sanders County Fair in Plains, Montana.
Small-town get together are a bit different. Don't get me wrong, we used to have an amazing Demo Derby, but when you step into a town full of farmers and ranchers that literally hold together their equipment with Duct Tape and Bailing Twine, the ingenuity goes to a whole other level. These folks are out there to break stuff, and it's a show.
The "Carnage On The Clark Fork" Demolition Derby goes down Sunday, September 3rd at 6 pm at the Sanders County Fair and Rodeo Grounds in Plains, Montana (30 River Road, in Plains Montana)
Hurry and grab your tickets HERE. Now, if you would like to sign up for the Derby, you have just enough time to cobble together a rig before the event. If you would like to sign up or need more information, visit the official event site.
