School Wants to Change Their Mascot to Something That Sounds Like Male Genitalia
Farmington High School, a new high school being built in Farmington, Utah is trying to decide on a mascot.
They had students vote and the mascot that won, was a phoenix, which is that mythical bird that rises from ashes.
Sounds pretty cool! Except for when people considered what the plural version would be. "Phoenices" which rhymes with a word for male genitals, is what people would chant at games and what some are worried about being ridiculed for.
This has led to a petition to change the name as Farmington's Kyle Fraughton told Fox 13, "there will be a never-ending barrage of references to male anatomy directed at our children."
Some students don't seem to mind though and say the petition is the real problem!
The spokesman for the school district also thinks the plural form of the mascot is pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.
