Firehouse Cat Draws Cheers in Missoula Parade
There are firehouse dogs, and then there’s Selkirk.
He’s not racing after tennis balls or riding shotgun in a red rig. This long-haired orange legend from Spokane commands a fire engine like a throne! Paws tucked, TikTok-famous, and as relaxed as a houseplant.
And last week? He rolled into the Missoula Pride Parade and soaked up the love. I mean rockstar-level screeches. One user wrote, “Was there an unhinged shriek of ‘KITTY!’ right when he appeared, or was that just my brain?” Nope. That was real. My ears heard it.

Selkirk rode like Simba on Pride Rock, blinking at fans who’ve been tracking his every move online. “If that cat even knew how famous it is,” someone posted. Another said, “This is the America I want.” And honestly? Same. Missoula doesn’t usually lose its mind over an internet celebrity. But this wasn’t just any visitor. This was a viral firehouse cat, and people were losing it. Selkirk wasn’t just there. He was the moment. Floating through the Missoula Pride Parade like royalty. As one person put it, "ok, this made me smile! best ever."
If you weren’t there to witness the orange fluff royalty in person, don’t worry. The whole thing lives on forever thanks to TikTok. He doesn’t flinch, doesn’t blink, just soaks it in like the unbothered legend he is.
@selkirk.the.cat HUGE thank you to the Missoula Community!! Selkirk and Purcell joined in the Missoula Pride parade. Thank you all for spreading such the joy and pawsssitivity #fyp #Pride #fire ♬ Pink Pony Club - Chappell Roan
And credit where it’s due, Missoula Pride was already popping. The Pride Parade brought out families, performers, allies, and rainbow-covered icons from all over Western Montana. But when Selkirk showed up? It went from celebration to full-on coronation.
