Stevensville Schools Closed Due to Icy Roads: Stay Safe, Everyone!
Well, Stevensville families, winter has officially arrived in full force. Thanks to some dangerously icy roads, the school district made the call to cancel classes today, Monday, November 19th. Superintendent Dave Thennis shared the update early this morning, emphasizing that safety had to come first.
As a parent of a student at Stevensville, my morning started with a barrage of emails, texts, and even an automated phone call, alerting me that class was going to be delayed until 10:20a due to icy road conditions. I made arrangements to get him to school before leaving for work. Soon after, parents received another barrage of calls and email notices that road conditions were just too risky for students.
“Due to unsafe transportation conditions, we made the difficult decision to cancel school today,” Thennis wrote in a message to the community. “All school activities are cancelled for November 19th. Thanks for your understanding.”
As a parent of a student I was scrambling to figure out how to get my kid to the delayed start, but icy roads are no joke. With freezing conditions making travel risky, the district's decision is all about keeping kids, teachers, and staff out of harm’s way.
For students, this surprise snow day might feel like an early holiday gift. Whether they’re sleeping in, catching up on homework, or getting a little screen time in before chores (You know who you are), it’s a day to stay cozy and safe indoors.
For parents, it might be a little more stressful. Juggling work and childcare is never easy, but at least the decision to cancel school means fewer worries about sending kids out on treacherous roads.
Stay safe out there, Stevensville!
