TikTok’s 100 vs 100 Debate Needs Montana In It
So there’s a thing on TikTok at the moment where people debate who would win in a hypothetical 100 Brits vs 100 Americans fight. No weapons. Just vibes, and fists. And although the comments section is a traumatic mess of insanity, patriotism, and Waffle House references, it made me think: if this match-up ever actually occurred, we’d need to sort it out region by region. Because let’s face it, people from Western Montana are little more than “American” in name only.
You might have seen that TikTok going around, where a woman sums up all the things that are different about Idaho culture and British culture. She lists such things as Idahoans who won't go to the hospital unless an arm is falling off. In Montana, we refer to that as “Thursday.”
Some of my favorite lines from the trending TikTok video that resonate with me most as a Montanan include:
- "I've seen a man punch a bear in the face growing up"
- "My neighbor had a pet mountain lion. Its name was Scooter."
- "12 year olds are riding around on four wheelers, just casually toting a 22"
- "People go to the state fair not to see Kenny Chesney, but to see the fight that's going to go down"
- "Two girls were hospitalized after they got in a fight at the Taco Bell parking lot over half a crunch wrap supreme"
- "There's someone just casually riding a buffalo around"
@harkermcnair I could've gone on for ten minutes. At least.😂 #harkermcnair #idahomegirl #idahome #idahocheck #idahomies #100britishvs100americans ♬ original sound - Harker McNair
Let's face it, if Idaho is the warm-up act, Western Montana is the headliner. We’re cutting firewood in October, we’re ice fishing in February, and we’re barbecuing in snowstorms.
So yeah, the video’s funny. But it’s also sort of true. And if there were such a thing as a clash between Britain and the Mountain West? We would wipe the floor with them.
